Une start-up française ambitionne de révolutionner le lavage des mains

Lancée en Juin 2021 à Reims (51) par Valérian Challut et Thibault Paczkowski, la start-up Ekowash développe actuellement une borne de lavage des mains nouvelle génération pour améliorer l’hygiène tout en réduisant considérablement la consommation d’eau et de savon. Après une première série de tests réussis au début de l’année 2022, la start-up a été labellisée French Tech et bénéficie de l’accompagnement et du soutien de l’État. Elle prévoit de lancer la commercialisation de sa borne Eko en novembre prochain.

Diplômés de l’Université Paris-Dauphine et de l’Inseec Lyon, Valérian Challut et Thibault Paczkowski décident de créer Ekowash en partant d’un double constat : 80% des bactéries et virus se transmettent par les mains alors même que la moitié des maladies pourraient être évitées en adoptant un cycle de lavage conforme aux recommandations de l’Organisation Mondial de la Santé. Dans le même temps, on estime qu’une personne utilise 1,2 L d’eau en moyenne à chaque fois qu’elle se lave les mains. « Nous avons donc cherché à mettre au point une solution qui permette de réduire à la fois la circulation des maladies mais aussi notre consommation, puisqu’aujourd’hui 4 personnes sur 10 sont déjà touchées par des pénuries d’eau dans le monde », explique Valérian Challut.

L’hygiène et l’écologie à portée de main

La borne Eko propose un cycle de lavage des mains automatisé et sans contact. Sa conception permet ainsi d’économiser 95% d’eau tout en évitant de manipuler des éléments recouverts de bactéries. Grâce à un système de projection par microgouttelettes, la borne Eko utilise en effet seulement 7 cl d’eau pour chaque lavage des mains. En parallèle, la start-up a développé et lancé Octomousse, une nouvelle formule de solution lavante zéro déchet qui permet d’économiser 60% de savon par cycle. « Avec Eko, nous sommes parvenus à conjuguer enjeux sanitaires et protection de l’environnement. Nous avons également attaché une grande importance à l’esthétique de la borne pour développer une dimension ludique et faire du lavage de mains un réflexe chez de plus en plus de personnes », ajoute Thibaut Paczkowski.

    Un projet industriel structurant pour le territoire

    La start-up a choisi d’assembler sa borne à Saint-Dizier, dans la Haute-Marne, afin de contribuer à la réindustrialisation du territoire français et au développement de nouvelles compétences sur le long terme, puisque près de 70% des matériaux utilisés pourront être réemployés dans la fabrication de nouvelles bornes. Le développement de la borne EKO est ainsi pensé de manière éco-conçue et respecte les principes de l’économie circulaire. Ekowash est d’ailleurs membre du Club Circul’R, un réseau qui regroupe 45 grands groupes, 45 startups et 10 institutions particulièrement actifs en matière d’économie circulaire. « Développer un projet industriel aujourd’hui en France est un sacré défi, qui demande beaucoup d’investissements », tient à préciser Valérian, « heureusement, nous pouvons compter sur un réseau d’acteurs privés et institutionnels engagés et bienveillants, comme l’incubateur Innovact ou la région Grand Est ». Valérian et Thibault sont déjà en contact avec plusieurs collectivités et chefs d’entreprise intéressés par la borne Eko.
